We had no idea what a 'Floating Village' was. We soon found out that it is literally a village built on the water, not land. It's a set of houses built on floating barges which are tied together. Each set of barges then becomes a 'neighborhood'. Because the islands do not have much flat ground these people parked their floating homes near the shore. No cars. No buildings on land. Because the weather is moderate they're able to live here year round.

Everything they need is brought to the village from town. Toilet paper, rice, milk/butter, clothes, furniture, etc.

We were told that the Vietnamese government has tried to get these people off the water by putting them into public housing. But because they cannot read nor write they have no job skills. Therefore they keep returning to what they have know and can make money at - Fishing.

Another group's set of kayaks. They've landed and are off exploring the island somewhere.

Villagers are bringing us our kayaks.
